How to Become a Board Member

Our Board Members are all volunteer.  They roll up their sleeves, dive in, and actively participate in the work.  Board members make a commitment to serve three year terms, devoting at least five hours per week to participate in conference calls, helplead volunteer groups and even attend a once a year in-person meetup with other Board members.  Board members bring their commitment, their passion and their knowledge to help grow the Coffee Party and move us toward our End State Goals.

Board members come through our volunteer program so they understand the Coffee Party, its unique culture, and its goals.  Applicants for the board submit an application in April for full vetting, including an interview,  and are then elected by our dues paying members in June of each year. To apply for candidacy, the volunteer should be:

  • Actively involved as a volunteer in a work group continuously since January 1 of the election year.

  • A dues-paying member of Coffee Party USA by March 31 of election year.

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • A US citizen and registered to vote.

In addition, the candidate:

  • May not be currently serving in or running for a partisan elected office (non-partisan office is exempt)

  • Commit to attend one mandatory in-person Board Meeting at their own travel expense.

  • Agree to devote a minimum of 5 volunteer hours per week.

  • Abide by our Civility Pledge:  As a member or supporter of the Coffee Party, I pledge to conduct myself in a way that is civil, honest, and respectful toward people with whom I disagree. I value people from different cultures, I value people with different ideas, and I value and cherish the democratic process.
